A useful finding connects what the business knows to the judgement and action the customer needs. This example follows an unresolved billing query through to a decision and an outcome check.

Fictional worked example / Billing query

The answer was given. The correction is still outstanding.

“I was told the bill would be corrected. It still shows the same amount.”

What the evidence shows

A prior conversation records a promised billing review. The customer has returned about the same charge. The account record supplied for review does not confirm that the correction occurred.

What still needs checking

Whether the charge is incorrect, whether the review was completed elsewhere, and what the customer was told about the timing. The available information does not establish payment difficulty.

The judgement

Resolve the promised billing review before treating the contact as a payment problem. The connected history changes the action.

The action and expertise

The digital agent checks the position with a billing expert and explains the answer. If a person needs to take responsibility, the history transfers with the customer and digital guidance supports the resolution.

The question for improvement

Did the original promise fail because the task was not created, was not completed, or was not visible to the next adviser? Test the cause before selecting a fix.

The outcome to revisit

Was the review completed? Was the customer informed? Did the issue recur? A case closure alone does not answer those questions.

From one case to a service decision

A finding should lead somewhere useful.

The immediate responsibility is to help the customer. The wider opportunity is to investigate whether other accounts are affected by the same failure.

A recurring pattern can support a proposal to change the process, knowledge or system. The team with authority over that change needs to own it. Evaluation then asks whether the action improved the customer outcome and reduced the recurring work.

Your next step

What would you want your service evidence to reveal?

Start with an outcome that is difficult to explain, a recurring problem or a decision your teams need to make with greater confidence.
